DIRECTV NFL Sunday Ticket and the Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals are a peculiar team and one not overly concerned with championship wins—at least not since 1988 when they won their last conference title. Even during their disappointing seasons, fans still followed closely with DIRECTV NFL Sunday Ticket. Now entering their 39th season, Coach Marvin Lewis says that “now” (the official theme of the Bengals new season) is the time for the team to step up to greater success. The Bengals are getting serious as they have been streamlining their office staff, exchanging their defensive coordinator and linebacker coach with new blood. If you are a Bengals fan living outside of the Cincinnati metro area, you better have DIRECTV or else you risk missing out on another exciting run at greatness.

The team has also experienced some departures, including Safety Madieu Williams, defensive end Justin Smith, and linebacker Landon Johnson. However, these were the more honorable releases to report. The Bengals also lost David Pollack because of an injury, along with Chris Henry and Odell Thurman for their lack of character (to put it nicely). However, all hope is not lost—the Bengals managed to pull off some team-saving free agency signings as well as a few notable draft selections. They signed tight end Ben Utecht, defensive end Antwan Odom and wide receiver Doug Gabriel. The Bengals received ten promising players from the 2008 NFL Draft, including first round pick Keith Rivers who will play as a linebacker. Other names that received favorable draft coverage include Jerome Simpson, Pat Sims and Andre Caldwell.

Then of course there’s the matter of Chad Johnson. Johnson felt some bad blood from management, believing that they were blaming him for the team’s failures. In actuality, Johnson was performing rather well last year, catching more passes and gaining more yards than in 2006. The situation escalated, with Johnson contacting Drew Rosenhaus in order to be released from his contract. He even refused to participate in the training camp early on. However, the latest news is that Johnson has declared that he will stay with the Bengals for the duration of his contract. Is this a mixed blessing or (finally) some good news?
