Wanted: A New Bengals Owner

The Cincinnati Bengals need a new owner. They just can't go on with Mike Brown. How can you have a team as loaded as the Bengals, and miss the playoffs for two straight seasons? How can you have a coach as good as Marvin Lewis, and not give him the proper help on defense that he needs? How can you still have the smallest scouting department in pro football (check Michael Silver's best/worst owner article on Yahoo Sports)? How can you have alienated the best wide-out in pro football? (Chad Johnson)

It's just Mike Brown's way. And he's got to go.

The only way that can happen is if someone bought the team.

I know who should.

Eddie DeBartolo.

Yup. The guy who owned the San Francisco 49'ers. Hell, he's from Ohio. You remember what he did the last time he owned the 49'ers: 4 Super Bowl titles won, Joe Montana as QB, Jerry Rice as wide-out, Bill Walsh as coach. I think his credentials are solid. Imagine if he owned the Bengals (I know about Eddie's troubled past). Marvin Lewis would get all the help he needed on every front. Chad Johnson wouldn't be unhappy. Carson Palmer would get a better Q rating, and the fan base would get an infusion of energy. Just ask somebody who lives in San Francisco if they miss DeBartolo.

Who knows. Maybe this could actually happen. Maybe Mike Brown might get tired of his own blunders, and do the right thing and sell the team.

Nah. More than likely, it won't happen. But, we can dream, right? Hell....that's what Bengals fans may have to do for the whole 2008 season.
